Darshan of Dharma: Day 5

The Vaishesika Darshan focuses on the nature of the universe. For them, the entire

universe can be reduced to six or seven padarthas. According to them knowledge

and liberation were achievable by a complete understanding of the world of

experience. The world of experience is the material world which has the atom as its

undivided unit and the largest which can be seen as composite structures.

Soul is regarded as one substance. Consciousness is regarded as its accidental

property. Soul is one of the padarth which is unconscious and is regarded as a mere

substratum to receive consciousness. For Vaishesikas, an entity can be known by its

opposite entity. Self can be known when there is a non-self.
